Kohinoor it’s one of the largest and most famous diamonds in the world. We Cannot estimate the price of the diamond even now.

Long Back when Babur (founder of the Mughal Empire) compared Koh-I-Noor with “One Day Meal” of the Global Population. When Nadir Shah (founder of the Afsharid dynasty) saw the diamond he emphasized “Person Throw Stone in all 4 directions and throw in this space is filled with Gold is less value of Kohinoor”. Something astonishing thing is there has never been any attempt to sell or Purchase Kohinoor has only been Won, Taken Away, or Given as a Gift.

According to history, Kohinoor was found in Andhra Pradesh Guntur. The journey of Kohinoor started from Kakatiya then it traveled to Khiljis, Mughals, Persians, Afghans, Sikhs then finally reached British. This diamond is 186 Carat it was considered as their Pride by many Rulers from dynasty to dynasty. Many tried different tricks to Achieve this diamond.

Let me take you to the possession of the British Imperial family. Many Historians trace its Origin between 1100 To 1300 at Golconda Mines under the Kakatiya Dynasty. Initially Kohinoor diamond was 793 carats was placed as the eye of the chief deity of Kakatiya temple at Warangal. Earlier in the 14th century when Alauddin Khiji raided South India Malik Kafur acquired Kohinoor, this was Kohinoor went into Delhi sultans hands and then passed on to succeeding Dynasties.

In 1526 Babur obtained Kohinoor after defeating Ibrahim Lodhi in the First Battle of Panipat. Babur mentioned Kohinoor as “Diamond of Babur” in his autobiography ‘BABURNAMA’.Babur Nama contains the first official written description of Kohinoor. Resources also say that Kohinoor was gifted by the King of Gwalior to Babur after the first battle of Panipat.

Now Kohinoor is in the hands of Mughals after the death of Babur it was passed on to successive generations and reached Shah Jahan. He mounted it on the Legendary ‘Peacock Throne. It Took 7years to build the peacock throne and its cost of construction is equal to 7 Taj Mahals.

After Shah Jahan his son and successor, Aurangzeb became the King. He allowed French traveler Tavernier to sketch Kohinoor. Aurangzeb ordered Borgia a gem artist of Venice to cut and enhance Kohinoor but he overworked and reduced its weight from 793 to 186 carats. At the end of Mughal rule, Mohammad shah Rangeela was the king was attacked by Nadir shah in 1739. He looted the Peacock throne and Kohinoor‘s sister diamond Dariya-e-Noor. Kohinoor was still with Mughal Badshah Mohammad shah Rangeela had Kohinoor in his turban. Only a few servants were aware of this. One among them a disloyal servant of Mohammad shah disclosed the secret of Kohinoor to Nadir Shah. In a royal dinner, Nadir shah offered to exchange the turban from Mohammad shah and got the Diamond.

Nadir Named the diamond “Kohinoor “.In Persian “Koh” means “Mountain” and “Noor” means “Light” thus Kohinoor means ‘Mountain of light”.

After Nadir shah’s assassination in 1747 in Iran his general Ahmad shah got possession of Kohinoor. He laid the foundation of the Durrani Dynasty In Afghanistan. Shah Shuja of the Durrani dynasty tribute Kohinoor to Maharaja Ranjith Singh in exchange for his help to get back the throne of Afghanistan. Ranjit Singh attached the diamond in his armlet, it was with him for 20 years. Later he wished to give the diamond to the Jagannath temple of Odisha. After the death of Maharaja in 1839 only Duleep Singh and his mother, Rani Jindan survived a violent period. Rani jin dan was jailed, The British amended the” TREATY OF LAHORE and made Duleep Singh signs another legal treaty. Under this treaty of Lord, Dalhousie Kohinoor was specially mentioned along with other assets of Duleep Singh.

Kohinoor was secretly shipped to England. In July 1850 Queen Victoria received the diamond in a special ceremony. Queen was not happy with the shape of the diamond and was kept in the museum and One magazine of England criticized Kohinoor and called it “Mountain of Darkness”. Due to this, it was again reshaped by Prince Albert. English and Dutch diamond experts reshaped Kohinoor into an Oval-shaped diamond reducing its weight to 105.6 carats. Now Kohinoor is just 3.6*3.2*1.3 cm.In a painting by Franz Xaver Winter halter, Queen Victoria is wearing Kohinoor as a Brooch. In Few Occasion, Queen used to wear it has Bracelet. After Kohinoor became the British Crown Jewel.
